THE ARREST OF DADDY GUCCI

Today is the beginning of the days Nigerians will begin to frown at fraud whether internet fraud or other means of fraud.

The truth is that the society we live in give room for questionable wealth and so many youth even though they know fraud is bad admire fraudster due to their lavish lifestyle and the amount of wealth they command not withstanding the consequences.

It is no longer news that billionaire Gucci patronizer Ray Hushpuppi and his friend Woodberry were arrested yesterday at their Dubai residence by a joint force of special agent of the federal bureau of Investigation (FBI) and interpol in the late hours of yesterday.

Prior to this time, there have been speculations that Hushpuppi acquired wealth is not legit as there are no special business attached to his name other than the regularly acquired exortic cars like Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Bentley and living in expensive housing estate.

There are no official report as to the reason for his arrest but there are rumors that Hushpuppi was arrested by FBI and Interpol for scamming and money laundering over $100million meant to purchase ventilators and other medical equipment to fight the corona virus pandemic in America while other sources are claiming he was arrested for hijacking the online unemployment benefits scheme in the United States of America.

Few months ago, his colleague and counterpart in the fraudulent industry Mompha was arrested in Nigeria by Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) although he was later granted bail by the court but there are speculations that his arrest is not unconnected to fraudulent activities.

My main concern is that many youths see this kind of person as their role model and looking up to him as mentors even though they are aware that the source of his wealth is not legit. Many youths have shunned integrity, skill and academic acquisition but instead hope for enjoyment fairytale influential wealthy lifestyle.

Many fraud apologist have even come out to say the energy directed to Hushpuppi should be directed to our politicians who themselves are very corrupt and flashy at the expense of our poor populace

As at the time of writing this article, there is no comment from neither Hushpuppi or Woodberry to debunk the claim.

Let’s all acts saintly and condemn fraud and corruption.
