Robbery in Aso Rock
Jocular display of drama as unknown gunmen broke into and attacked the office of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and destroyed computers and other confidential documents in a bid to destroy substantial evidence in the on-going probe of the suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The NFIU whose main office is inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa was burgled in what looks like an attempted robbery and at least seven computers containing confidential financial information were carted away and others properties badly damaged.
The NFIU is a department of the Central Bank of Nigeria that monitors financial flows into and from bank accounts. The burglary of the NFIU office in the Aso Rock may not be unconnected to the investigations going on about the ex-EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu.
The Director-General of NFIU, Mr. Modibbo Hamman-Tukurmet met with President Muhammadu Buhari to report the incident.
