I have gone through all the system, what else can I do for this country? Buhari asks
President Muhammadu Buhari has said age is telling on him and that he cannot wait to leave office so that he could have the needed rest.
The president spoke in an interview on NTA on Thursday.
Buhari is 79 years old.
He said at his age, his colleagues were now resting, assuring that he looked forward to the next 17 months when he too would be less busy.
“The age is telling on me, working now for six, seven to eight hours per day in the office is no joke, there are questions of the executive council, memos from as many states as possible to be considered virtually every week,” he said.
Buhari said he is doing lots of hard work, but that he would not complain because he asked for it.
He said he had been a governor, a minister, and now in his second term as president.
“So, I’ve gone through all the system and really, what else can I do for this country? I have given my best and I hope after I leave, Nigerians would reflect and at least show appreciation,” he said.
Buhari said he is expecting Nigerians to say he has done his best, hoping that he would leave leave a more secure Nigeria than it was now.
