CANTICLE: An Eulogy unto God
By Martins Adedeji
My brain desires to deliver thoughts of your wonders.
My pen is everly ready to pour out it ink until it goes out of its content.
My hands are ready to deliver the message of the brain.
My soul longeth for you,
Flesh fears you and cannot withstand your presence.
It’s been a long while, since I rendered an eulogy unto you,
Like David, from words to words, phrases to phrases, sentences to sentences,
Chapters to chapters,
I desire to write mine unto you.
Permit me to pay homage to the one, who dwells in heaven and the earth.
The one who is filled even before we try to prepare his meal.
Everly fresh and glowing skin, without using cream.
Leader of the host of heavens
Glory, praises and honor unto you.
The one who created us out of clay,
The owner of our soul.
You who liveth in the most beautiful place.
On the brim of the earth, your footstool
Light is your garment
Glory is your crown
I come back to the place of glory, the owner of my time,
Who am I ? Not to have time for your work.
The things we see reveals your majesty.
The unseen things that we feel cannot be decribed yet they reveal your gloriousness.
The day speaks,
Clouds reveals your works
The sun shows your intelligence.
The heavens speaks of the glory of God
Their noice goeth over the earth.
No one is God except you,
The one who bringeth glory out of barrenness
Nazareth is small, and known for nothing good until you brought out Christ from there.
In the street language,
I say “after you, na still you”
As you were in those days, you’re still now and forever more.
I fear you, O lord.
You who used the fall of Esau to uplift Jacob.
You who used the fall of Vashti to uplift Esther.
You who used the fall of Saul to uplift David.
I fear you.
What do I talk about?,
How else do I describe you?
I can’t fathom you,
You’re a mystery.
Who am I?,
among the sons of men,
To even understand you.
Who is this?, I speaketh about.
It is the God of host.
I believe you, yet I’ve never seen you physically.
Make us to know you more O Lord.
Amen
