Political Uncertainty hits Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s second term bid
Ondo State incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of All Progressives Congress(APC) may not partake in the state party primary election which may cost him his second term ambition..
The political differences in the Ondo State APC involving the Deputy Governor decamping to Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), resignation of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the state party chairman may account for the reasons the screening committee is not clearing the Governor for the party primary election.
The aspirants who participated in the Ondo APC screening exercise include Joseph Olusola Iji, Odimayo Okunjimi, Olayide Owolabi Adelami, Isaacs Duerimini Kekemeke, Olusola Oke Alex, lfeoluwa Olusola Oyedele and Olajumoke Olubusola Anifowoshe.
Others are Awodeyi Akinsehinwa Akinola Colinus, Olubukola Adetula, Dr Abraham Olusegun, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Dr Nathaniel Adojutelegan.
There are other speculations that the APC screening committee may not recommend the Governor for primary election fixed for July 20, 2020 because the screening committee discovered how Akeredolu had been involved in anti-party activities, leading to the low votes recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari in Ondo during the 2019 elections.
However some believe that the Governor does not enjoy the goodwill of the populace as the people of the state have turned against him.
According to a source within the screening committee who spoke in anonymity, “The main problem we are battling with in Ondo now is that we have discovered that people have turned against the Governor and we are scared of fielding him as our candidate for the October election”.
There are however rumours that party bigwigs led by Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, are making moves to save the Governor from the embarrassment that may erupt from his disqualification.
